Excitement is building for this year’s Sports Star Awards with news that tomorrow nights award ceremony is sold out.

Donegal County Council is delighted to continue it’s longstanding association with the Donegal Sports Star Awards and is looking forward to the Gala Award Ceremony tomorrow night in the Mount Errigal Hotel.

Seamus Neely, Chief Executive, Donegal County Council said that “this is the 39th Year of the Donegal Sports Star Awards and Donegal County Council has been associated with these awards for a long number of years.  We are delighted to be the exclusive sponsors of the Donegal Sports Star Awards as we believe that it is only right that we take the time to recognise and celebrate the hard work and dedication of our sports stars and of their remarkable achievements”.

He added “in recognising these achievements, we are raising awareness of the importance of sport in our communities.  Participation in sport and increasing the levels of physical activity for all age groups is becoming more and more important in today’s society and we are delighted that Donegal County Council has been to the fore in recognising this through our long standing association with the Donegal Sports Star Awards.”

Cathaoirleach Cllr. John Campbell said “I would like to congratulate everyone who has been nominated for a Donegal Sports Star Award this year.  To be nominated is in itself a wonderful achievement and the calibre of this year’s nominees is outstanding.  The range of sports represented in this year’s awards is phenomenal and shows of the importance of sport to the life of our county.”

He added “the great thing about these awards is that they not only recognise the achievements of our sports stars but also of the people who have helped them and supported them along the way.  There are many unsung heros

who work tirelessly in sports clubs and organisations throughout Donegal.  These people are the life blood of their sport. Without their efforts, their drive and commitment and their love of sport, we would not have the calibre of sports stars in Donegal that we have today”.

He added “I am delighted that the Donegal Sports Star Awards Committee recognise and value this contribution and it is one of the reasons why Donegal County Council is and has been for many years the main sponsor of these awards”.

The Awards Ceremony will take place tomorrow night in the Mount Errigal Hotel.
